What people say about Teja Mandara and Malli Malli

The full guide

A closer look at the hamper

Two full-size Dipsy products and four things you will keep using long after the lamps are put away. Here is what each one is, how to use it, what goes into it, and who it makes a good gift for.

Teja Mandara double cleanser and makeup remover, 100 ml
Step 1 · Cleanse · 100 ml

Teja Mandara double cleanser and makeup remover

Teja Mandara is a cleansing oil that turns into a milk. Massaged onto dry skin, the oil loosens makeup, sunscreen and the day's residue. Add a little water and it turns milky, so it rinses away without leaving an oily film. One product covers both steps of a double cleanse, and skin is left feeling clean and comfortable rather than tight.

The name joins two languages. In Tamil, Teja means radiance. In Telugu, Mandara means hibiscus.

How to use Teja Mandara

  1. With dry hands, take two to three pumps.
  2. Massage over dry skin in slow circles until makeup and sunscreen loosen.
  3. Add a little water and keep massaging until it turns milky.
  4. Rinse well with lukewarm water and pat dry.

Use it in the evening, or any time you have worn makeup or sunscreen. For heavier makeup, cleanse a second time. Follow with Malli Malli. Patch test before first use. For external use only.

Who Teja Mandara is for

Anyone who wears makeup or sunscreen and wants one cleanser that removes both. Dipsy made it for men and women, and for oily, dry and combination skin, including in warm, humid weather. Skin varies, so patch test first if yours reacts easily.

Teja Mandara ingredients, explained

Hibiscus from Chennai, used in Dipsy Teja Mandara double cleanser

Hibiscus

Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis

Hibiscus extract carried in oil. Hibiscus flowers have a long history in Indian hair and skin care, and the extract is used in cosmetics as a skin-conditioning botanical.

Alkanet root from Jammu, used in Dipsy Teja Mandara double cleanser

Alkanet root

Alkanna Tinctoria

Alkanet root extract carried in oil. The root has been used for centuries to colour oils a deep red, from its natural pigments, called alkannins.

Moringa from Tuticorin, used in Dipsy Teja Mandara double cleanser

Moringa seed oil

Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil

Oil pressed from moringa seeds. It is rich in oleic acid, which makes it a softening, emollient oil.

White ginger lily flowers, Hedychium coronarium, in bloom

White ginger lily

Hedychium Coronarium

A fragrant white-flowered plant of the ginger family, which Dipsy sources from Arunachal Pradesh. It is part of the cleanser's botanical blend.

The rest of the formula

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
A light, clear oil made from glycerin and caprylic and capric fatty acids. It is the base of the cleanser and does the dissolving: makeup and sunscreen are oily, and oil loosens them.
Glycerin, Aqua, Sucrose Laurate and Sucrose Stearate
A blend of sugar-based emulsifiers with glycerin and water. This is what turns the oil milky when you add water, so it rinses off instead of sitting on your skin. Glycerin is a humectant, which means it draws water to the skin.
Tocotrienol
A member of the vitamin E family, used in cosmetics as a skin-conditioning ingredient.

Full ingredient list: Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin (and) Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (and) Aqua (and) Sucrose Laurate (and) Sucrose Stearate, Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis (and) Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Alkanna Tinctoria (and) Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil, Hedychium Coronarium, Tocotrienol. Malli Malli lightweight moisturiser, 50 g jar
Step 2 · Moisturise · 50 g

Malli Malli lightweight moisturiser

Malli Malli is a light cream for everyday use, made with two plant butters from India, mango butter and kokum butter, plus neroli and coriander seed oil. It absorbs quickly, leaves a soft, matte feel and sits under sunscreen and makeup. It is made to feel light in heat and humidity.

How to use Malli Malli

  1. Morning: smooth a light layer over clean skin, then apply sunscreen and makeup as usual.
  2. Evening: after cleansing with Teja Mandara, press a light layer onto slightly damp skin.

Used twice a day, one 50 g jar lasts about eight weeks. Patch test before first use. For external use only.

Who Malli Malli is for

Anyone who wants moisture without a heavy or greasy feel, especially in warm, humid weather. Dipsy made it for men and women, and for oily, dry and combination skin. Patch test first if your skin reacts easily.

Malli Malli ingredients, explained

Mango butter cold-pressed from Rajasthan mango kernels, used in Dipsy Malli Malli moisturizer

Mango butter

Mangifera Indica Seed Butter

Butter pressed from the kernel inside the mango seed. It is an emollient: it softens skin and helps it feel less dry. It melts at around 32 to 36°C, close to skin temperature, which is why it spreads easily.

Kokum butter from the Western Ghats of Maharashtra, used in Dipsy Malli Malli moisturizer

Kokum butter

Garcinia Indica Seed Butter

Butter from the seeds of the kokum fruit, which grows along India's western coast. A firm, emollient butter that softens skin.

Neroli blossom from Tamil Nadu, distilled for Dipsy Malli Malli moisturizer

Neroli

Citrus Aurantium Amara Flower Oil

Oil from bitter orange blossoms, one of the botanicals in Malli Malli.

Fresh coriander, the hero botanical in Dipsy Malli Malli moisturizer

Coriander seed oil

Coriandrum Sativum Seed Oil

Oil from coriander seeds, the spice used in Indian kitchens. In cosmetics it is used as a skin-conditioning oil.

The rest of the formula

Aqua
Water, the base of the cream.
Cetearyl Olivate and Sorbitan Olivate
An emulsifier made from olive oil. It holds the water and the butters together as a smooth cream.
Potassium Cetyl Phosphate
A second emulsifier that keeps the cream stable.
C15-19 Alkane
A light emollient that gives the cream a smooth, non-greasy slip.
Xylitol, Anhydroxylitol and Xylitol Glucoside
A humectant blend made from xylitol, a sugar alcohol. Humectants draw water into the top layer of the skin.
Propanediol
A humectant and solvent that helps keep the texture light.
Cetyl Alcohol
A fatty alcohol that thickens the cream and softens skin. It is not a drying alcohol.
Silica
A fine mineral powder that gives the cream its soft, matte feel.
Acacia Senegal Gum and Xanthan Gum
Natural gums that thicken the cream and keep its texture even.
Tocopherol
Vitamin E. An antioxidant that helps protect the butters and oils in the jar from going rancid.
Phytic Acid
A plant-derived chelating agent. It binds trace metals that could otherwise destabilise the formula.
Benzyl Alcohol, Salicylic Acid, Glycerin, Sorbic Acid, Ethyl Lauroyl Arginate HCl and Sodium Benzoate
The preservative system. These keep bacteria and mould out of the cream once the jar is open.
